Home to school transport in Slough: a parents' guide to our school coaches
Passes, QR boarding, ShuttleID tracking and the rules at the stop: everything parents need to know about our school coaches to Pioneer Academy and Herschel Grammar.
If your mornings involve a race along the A4, a queue of cars at the school gates and a teenager who still can't find their PE kit, you're not alone. For families across Slough, Burnham, Langley, Reading, Wokingham, Southall and Hayes, our home to school transport in Slough and beyond takes the school run off your plate. It's a safe, tracked coach that picks your child up at a set stop each morning and brings them back each afternoon.
This guide is for parents and carers whose children travel, or are about to travel, on NP Coaches' routes to Pioneer Secondary (Khalsa) Academy and Herschel Grammar School. It covers everything about our school coach service in Slough: how passes work, how to track the coach, the rules at the stop and what to do when things don't go to plan. It's especially useful if your child is starting Year 7 and travelling independently for the first time.

How school coach passes and QR boarding work
To register, go to our home to school coach service page, choose your school and follow the secure ticket portal link. The school page also shows pass information and any waiting-list guidance.
Once you've bought a pass, your child receives a QR code. They must scan it to board, every journey, morning and afternoon. We run a strict "no ticket, no ride" policy, so a child can't travel without a valid, scannable code.
"But the driver knows my child!"
We hear this a lot, and it's a fair question. Every passenger needs to be recorded on the vehicle's manifest. Scanning lets us trace each child and their guardian in an emergency. Without a scan, we have no record of them on board. That's why the pass matters even when the driver recognises your child.
No sharing codes
Please make sure your child understands that passes can't be shared. If a child is found using someone else's QR code, we reserve the right to cancel that code. That would mean buying a new full-year ticket to travel again.
No phone, or a forgotten code?
If your child doesn't have a phone, they can bring a printed paper copy of their pass. If they forget their code or their phone runs out of battery, please contact our office as soon as you can on 0208 843 1000. The team can then advise you on that journey. Don't assume they'll be able to board without it.
Live tracking and boarding alerts with ShuttleID
Live tracking is one of the features parents value most. Sign in at passenger.shuttleid.uk, open Notifications and switch on email boarding notifications. You'll get an alert when your child scans on. You can also follow the coach's progress, which is handy when traffic on the M4 or A4 is slower than usual.
At the stop: timings and the rules for parents
A few simple rules keep every route safe and on time for everyone:
- Be at the stop at least 3 minutes early. Coaches leave on time wherever possible and never early. If you arrive as the coach pulls away, it hasn't left ahead of schedule.
- We can only stop at authorised stops. We hold permits for set bus stops, so we can't offer door-to-door drops, even if the coach passes your house.
- Don't drop off or pick up at the bus stop itself. It's unsafe and puts our permit at risk. Drivers who see this may suspend a child's travel for up to 5 days.
- Never block the coach with your car. This can also lead to a suspension of up to 5 days.
- Park considerately, with respect for other road users and residents.
In the afternoon, route codes are clearly displayed on each coach, and the transport team can help any child who's unsure. Children are responsible for getting off at the right stop, and the timetable shows the drop-off order. It's worth going through it together before the first day.
Safety and safeguarding on every journey
Handing your child over to a coach operator is a big step, so here is what sits behind our service:
- Enhanced DBS-checked drivers
- CCTV on board and GPS-tracked vehicles
- A clear safeguarding policy and child-protection procedures, with every member of staff expected to report concerns
- A full UK PSV operator licence and a modern, Euro-6 fleet
We've been a family-run business since 1999 and have completed more than 10,000 school journeys.
Fares and payments
Passes are paid for through the ticket portal, and direct debits are managed by GoCardless. If you need to change your bank details, contact GoCardless directly. Because of fuel and operating costs, fares may be reviewed during the academic year. If that happens, parents are told in advance and can cancel before any revised price takes effect.
School coach vs the school run: why families switch
- Time back. No more daily drive to school and back, so you can get to work, the gym or the next drop-off.
- Predictable mornings. A set stop and a set time, plus live tracking for peace of mind.
- Fewer cars at the gates. One coach replaces a long line of family cars, which helps congestion and safety around the school.
- Growing independence. Travelling with friends on a supervised, tracked route builds confidence, especially in Year 7.
First-week checklist for parents
- Buy the pass and check the QR code opens on your child's phone, or print a paper copy.
- Turn on ShuttleID boarding notifications.
- Walk to the stop together and agree where to wait safely.
- Make sure your child knows their route code and their stop.
- Save 0208 843 1000 in your phone and your child's.
- Agree a plan for what your child should do if they miss the coach.
Our coaches don't just do the daily run. We also carry schools on trips and fixtures. Teachers can use our school trip coach hire checklist, and PE departments and clubs will find our sports team coach hire guide useful.
